Does CORE claim to 'cure' homosexuality?
Homosexuality isn't a 'disease' so we're not looking for a 'cure'.
We do believe however, that for some people homosexuality does not feel natural - for more personal reasons than just because some sections of society are prejudiced towards homosexual practice.
You often hear people say "its society that needs to change, and not individuals" who experieince homosexual feelings. Whilst societies do need to respect difference, we reject the notion of "internalised (or egodystonic) homophobia" as the reason for these people's rejection of homosexual feelings withing themselves (or others).
Another thing people say is that in seeking, or offering help to those seeking to change homosexual behaviour and feelings we 'pathologise' such individuals. It might infact be that we are in danger of pathologising society when we claim that individuals unappy with homosexuality have somehow absorbed negative societal values.
We believe individuals have a right to self-determine sexual identity and behaviour and so reject the notion that people are born gay and as such are inevitably "gay". By the same token, people have the right to identify as and act out as, homosexuals. (But this isn't saying that homosexuality is a choice!)
